Don Trahan is a distinguished individual with a remarkable background in education, politics, and community service. A graduate of USL with degrees in Political Science and Social Studies Education, Don's academic achievements were underscored by receiving the prestigious Louisiana Police Jury scholarship award as the outstanding graduate in political science in the state of Louisiana in 1971.

His professional journey includes serving as a legislative aide to the esteemed Cecil J. Picard, who later became the state Superintendent of Education. Don's commitment to education extended to teaching Social Studies, English, and French in various high schools, including Acadiana, Crowley, CHSBR, Livonia, and Northside. Alongside his teaching duties, he coached football, baseball, girls softball, and served as an Athletic Director.

Don's dedication to fostering a conducive learning environment further manifested in his roles as a disciplinarian at South Rayne and Church Point elementary schools. His passion for public service extended to his tenure as a state representative for District 31 from 2003 to 2011. Notably, during the Jindal administration, he served as the chairman of the House Education Committee, where he authored over 40 pieces of legislation, including the Teachers Bill of Rights and the bill that created the Louisiana charter school law. Additionally, Don was the State Director of Regional Services for the Louisiana Department of Education.

Recently, Don Trahan founded the Louisiana Education Policy Institute(LEPI), demonstrating his lifelong commitment to serving Louisiana school students. His passion lies in addressing the needs of at-risk students and implementing policies aligned with their educational advancement. This dedication underscores Don's unwavering commitment to ensuring equitable opportunities for all students across Louisiana.
